Sun Group has broken ground on Da Nang Downtown, a roughly $3 billion riverside megaproject anchored by a 408-meter tower that will stand as the tallest building in Central Vietnam and the second-tallest in the country.
What Sun Group is building
On August 19, 2025, Sun Group held the groundbreaking, the Lễ Khởi Công, for Da Nang Downtown, a 76.9-hectare cultural, entertainment and commercial complex on the site of the former Asia Park beside the Han River. Total investment runs to about 80,000 billion VND, roughly $3 billion.
The masterplan pairs a supertall landmark with a 4,000-seat opera house, a riverside commercial quarter, an entertainment park, and a mix of premium apartments, shophouses and townhouses along the water.
The 408-meter tower
The centerpiece is a 69-story, 408-meter tower. On completion it becomes the tallest building in Central Vietnam and the second-tallest nationwide, behind only Ho Chi Minh City's 461-meter Landmark 81. Its silhouette draws on the five elements and the flowing lines of the áo dài, topped by a flame-shaped crown lit to read like a lighthouse over the river.
Inside, the tower stacks a five-star hotel, Grade-A offices, luxury apartments, a shopping mall, restaurants and bars, a convention and event level, and a public observation deck.
Where it sits
Da Nang Downtown rises at 1 Phan Dang Luu in Hoa Cuong Bac, Hai Chau District, on the west bank of the Han River. The plan folds the old Asia Park and its Sun Wheel into a new downtown core, within walking distance of the Dragon Bridge and the central riverfront.
