Look up from the south end of My Khe and one tower stops you: a high-rise wrapped in a rippling, wave-shaped lattice that lights up gold at dusk. That's Stella Maris Beach Danang ... a design-forward beach hotel built, quite literally, in the image of the sea it faces.
The building
The façade is meant to echo the waves of the East Sea, and the interiors take their cue from the shells of My Khe Beach. It's most obvious in the corner suites, where curved floor-to-ceiling glass is braced by sculptural white-and-blue ribs that bow like a hull ... the room that keeps showing up in everyone's "perfect Da Nang hotel" reels. There are 97 rooms and suites in all, finished in a calm gray-and-timber palette, many with freestanding tubs and the ocean a few hundred meters out the window.
The rooftop
The signature is up top: a rooftop pool alongside Crystal Blu, the rooftop lounge and bar, with a sweeping 180-degree view over My Khe and the Son Tra Peninsula. The infinity edge runs out toward the water under a colonnade, with loungers, a spiral stair, and the city lights coming on at blue hour. It's the kind of view that does most of the work for the whole hotel.
The location
Stella Maris sits at 03 Võ Văn Kiệt in Phước Mỹ, Sơn Trà ... about 50 meters from My Khe Beach, the stretch Forbes and the New York Times have both name-checked. That puts it in the thick of the An Thượng cafe-and-restaurant grid, walkable to the sand, and a short ride from the Marble Mountains and the Son Tra peninsula.
Why it matters
Stella Maris is a smaller, design-led counterpoint to Da Nang's mega-resorts: not the biggest building on the beach, but one of the most considered. It's another sign of where the My Khe skyline is going ... hotels built to look like the coast they sit on, not just to stack rooms above it.
